China, as the world’s largest iron ore consumer, saw its iron ore imports increase by 5.4% on year to about 358.4 million tonnes over January-April, according to the latest statistics released by the country's General Administration of Customs on May 7.
The increase for the first four months was higher than the 1.3% year-on-year growth witnessed during January-March, largely because the country’s iron ore import volume in April alone increased by 11.4% on month or 18.5% on year to some 95.7 million tonnes – a new monthly high since last September
